Another successful event for the Clabile Trust on 10th July at the biggest 10k race in the UK. We were inundated with requests to take part but with 6 places it was a race to reply first and this years runners were, Alastair Johnson, Dill Upsdell, Paul Turrell, Urvi Patel, Sophie Meeson and Katie Forshaw (replacement runner to Arthur Lilley who was unfortunately injured).
All the runners did a fantastic job, for many, taking part was an incentive to start running and the 10k was a first and no mean feat. It was a beautiful day, however, the section through Blackfriars tunnel offered some welcome, cooling relief from the sunshine! The route took participants through some fabulous parts of London, passing through Piccadilly Circus, along Embankment taking in the London Eye and Tate Modern before returning and finishing on Pall Mall.
Donations are still coming in but we are hoping to have raised £1200-1400, this would be a wonderful achievement and we thank our runners for taking part and to those who have donated so generously to the Clabile Trust.
We have places at next years 10k so be sure to get in quick if you would like to take part...
Quiz Night 2011
The annual Clabile Trust quiz night which was held on Thursday 7th April at The Star and Garter in Putney was, again, a fantastic success.
Fourteen teams took part including previous champions ‘Lucky Strike’ and ‘Squeeze me Macaroni’. This year, however, new entrants, bizarrely named ‘Unseated the Rider’, stole the trophy. Many congratulations to Paul, Christine, Paddy and Ailsa!
Thanks to the generosity of all the guests and to Emma Moore, World Events, Venture Photography and Madame JoJos for donating auction prizes, the evening raised over £1,200. Brilliant!
We ‘BEAT THE BLUES’
January 29th !! What a night !! We really did ‘Beat the Blues’ with a fabulous action-packed evening at this, The Clabile Trust’s biggest fundraising event.
Guests arrived at the elegant Tithe Barn to be greeted with a glass of bubbly and music from the talented ‘Cash Cows’ Band. The entertainment continued during reception and dinner as we were all mystified by the magic of Pip Kennedy. Following dinner the amazing voices of Merryn, Peter and Andrew entered into the party atmosphere with a selection of popular operatic arias. Dancing followed with music and stunning a light show provided by local DJ, Ross Winhall.
The quantity and quality of the prizes on offer ensured that a large number of guests, who generously dug deep into their pockets, later left the Tithe Barn with some outstanding prizes.
Archers actor and local GP, Graham Blockey, performed the role of MC and auctioneer, whilst our patron, actress Jodie Whittaker, told guests how proud she was to be involved with a charity in which every penny gets directly to the people who really need it.
The Clabile Trust would like to thank everyone who joined us for the evening, the organising committee (Pauline, Angie, Cindy & Gillie), the performers and those who generously donated prizes for the evening. We would particularly like to thank Michael Vance at KUONI for a 5* deluxe holiday in Mauritius, Jehan Couture for a bespoke £3,500 evening gown and Natasha Notley at The Dormitory for a beautiful designer iron bed. Thanks, too, to Emilie-Kate Owen, Barbara Jago, Simon Brookman and Ian Verlander.
We also received generous prizes from Cartoonist - Matt, the England & Wales Cricket Board, David Gale (Lord’s tickets), Leo Bancroft Salon, Wahanda, JL Sports, Esterel Spa, Waitrose (Dorking), Mercure Burford Bridge Hotel .... and many more.
Thanks to you we raised over £8,500 during the evening which will give us a great start for our project of building classrooms, on the Casa Clabile site, which will be used to provide essential vocational skills for young people in South Africa.
